News From May 1999:

E3: Marketing the DC In the USTop

In the US, Sega has begun to slowly advertise the system. Things will kick into high gear very soon with an onslaught of adverts in print, television, and in the theaters. Sega has allied with Pepsi for a pre-film trailer called "Hot Topics." The trailer will show before feature films such as Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace (yes, I've tickets for the 19th). The trailer promotes two things: The Dreamcast, and Arnold Schwarzeneggar's next film. The trailers will begin showing in July and run through next March.

On TV, Sega is one of the primary sponsors of this year's MTV Music Awards, which happens to be airing on September 9th. Around 950 commercial spots have been purchased from this July until March next year. Thus far, around 60,000 pre-orders have been taken for the DC...Sega expects around 300,000 by launch.

E3: Sega Reveals DC Internet StrategyTop

Today Sega unveiled their plans for the DC and its online abilities in the US and Europe. For the US, the system will ship with a 56K modem included. At the price of $199, it is 'highly unlikely' that there will be any pack-in games however. There are 15 titles set to launch with the system thus far.

Over in Europe...you guys have to foot the higher cost of £199 for the system. For this price, it will include the 56K modem, and free internet access. British Telecom and ICL will be setting up the pan-European network for the DC along with local dialup services. At launch, Web, e-mail, and chat access will be available with online shopping and gaming following later.

E3: Capcom Announces DC GamesTop

At today's E3 in Los Angeles, the first news out is Capcom's announcement of their DC titles for the US. Well...there's nothing new here, they announced Resident Evil: Code Veronica, a DC exclusive for release sometime this Winter. Power Stone, in the Fall, and Street Fighter Zero 3 at about the same time.
